VICTORIA, July 10 — Victoria Athletics scored their seventh win in eight starts over the Yakima Bears Monday night, pounding them for a 14-4 triumph as John Marshall cruised to his [ ]th pitching win.
Marshall had a big night. Clowning throughout, he bore down only when there were men on the bases and got out of every jam but one. At the plate, he led the team with two singles and a home run in five trips, batting in four runs and scoring a pair.
Dick Larner was tagged for all Victoria runs and all but one of their hits as manager Joe Orengo's depleted mound staff, which faces a double-header Tuesday night, could ill spare the use of a relief pitcher.
Oufielder Lou Novikoff twirled the last two innings and gave up only one hit—a single by Marshall, who switched sides and batted lefthanded after Novikoff tossed two strikes across.
Yakima lost the services out outfielder Joe [sic] Coscarart in the third inning. He hurt his leg making an unnecessary slide at the plate while scoring Yakima's fourth run and had to be carried from the field. The extent of his injury was not known as x-ray reports were not in.
Bill Andring led the Yakima attack with two doubles and a pair of singles in five trips while Coscarart it safely in all three trips before being injured.
